Job Overview

Overall Purpose of Post:

The post holder will be responsible for providing comprehensive preoperative assessment and care to patients undergoing various surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including medical history, health screening, and physical examination.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Liaise with anaesthetists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address complex patient needs and develop strategies for improved patient flow.
  • Act as a clinical expert and provide education and support to patients, families, and healthcare staff.

Main Duties:

Clinical

Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients and healthcare professionals.

Contribute to the reduction of length of stay and improve patient outcomes.

Develop and implement assessment and referral protocols and guidelines.

Perform and document medical and nursing preoperative assessments.

Initiate preoperative investigations and diagnostic tests as per existing protocols and NICE guidance.

Exercise clinical judgment and decision-making about patients' suitability for surgery.
