Job Overview
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is dedicated to ensuring safe working environments across various industries. Our Specialist Division includes a team of Specialist Inspectors and scientists who provide essential technical support for our regulatory functions, including inspections, investigations, and policy development.
Position Summary
As a key member of the Construction Engineering Specialist Team (CEST), you will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals to promote safety in the construction sector. Your expertise will be crucial in guiding employers to adhere to safety regulations, ensuring that workplaces across Great Britain operate within the legal framework.
In this role, you will engage with a variety of employers, from large construction projects to smaller operations, gaining insights into different work activities. Your responsibilities will include conducting inspections, assessing compliance, and providing technical guidance to enhance safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of various construction sites to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Analyze incidents related to construction engineering to determine root causes and lead investigations when necessary.
- Prepare expert reports that contribute to health and safety improvements and inform legal proceedings.
- Serve as an independent expert witness in legal settings, providing insights based on your findings.
- Collaborate with other government departments and professional bodies to share information and develop safety policies.
- Maintain and enhance your technical knowledge to effectively apply it in your role.
- Understand and comply with relevant legal requirements and technical standards.
- Utilize scientific and technical knowledge to analyze information and develop solutions.
Travel Requirements
As HSE oversees sites throughout Great Britain, occasional travel and overnight stays may be required.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications:
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with Chartered Engineer status.
- Demonstrated experience in civil and structural engineering, including site processes and safety standards.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.
- Experience working within UK safety regulations, particularly the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015.
Training and Development
At HSE, we prioritize the professional growth of our employees. You will receive comprehensive training to familiarize yourself with the legal aspects of this role, including a 2-year Specialist Training Programme (STP) that combines legal and technical training.
Benefits
We offer a competitive salary along with contributions to a robust pension scheme, flexible working options, and a supportive work environment that values diversity and inclusion. Additional benefits include generous annual leave, family-friendly policies, and access to various employee support programs.
