About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Finance Assistant to join our team at Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited. As a Finance Assistant - VAT Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Tax Accountant in key areas such as Contract-Out-Services (COS VAT).

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Acquire an understanding of commercial/non-business/exempt activities from a VAT perspective and apply this knowledge to the monthly transactions coded to COS.
  • Quickly identify and investigate transactions that require further analysis, working closely with other districts as needed.
  • Reconcile transactions coded inside the scope of CIS and produce the monthly contractor CIS returns to HMRC in a timely manner.
  • Provide ad-hoc finance support to the Tax Accountant, including preparing journals and other financial reports.
Requirements
  • A solid background in accounting and a thorough understanding of double entry bookkeeping is essential.
  • Previous experience with producing journals and a good understanding of VAT returns is also a requirement.
  • Be part-qualified or currently studying for ACCA/CIMA or fully qualified for AAT.
  • Be proficient in using Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Excel, including creating Pivot Tables.
  • Previous experience with dealing with VAT is desirable, as is experience in the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing concise and clear emails to internal stakeholders.
