Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a Lead Cardiology Nurse within the Cardiology department at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).

This is a full-time, temporary role where the successful candidate will engage in a variety of shifts, including extended days, shorter shifts, weekends, and night shifts.

We seek a proactive and seasoned Nurse - Adult Registered, eager to enhance their leadership capabilities. The ideal candidate will possess experience as a Band 5/6 nurse in cardiology, showcasing outstanding teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.

The selected individual will receive support to grow in their position and will be expected to exemplify excellence in patient care. Collaboration within a team environment is essential, as is the ability to lead that team in delivering the highest standards of care.

The Cardiology department is a specialized center that caters to patients with intricate cardiac conditions. The ward comprises 30 inpatient beds and 4 additional boarding beds, addressing a broad spectrum of acute cardiology challenges, including acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias, heart failure, valve diseases, and congenital heart defects.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will collaborate with a skilled nursing team to provide guidance and clinical expertise to all staff members. They will also be supported in honing their managerial and clinical skills.

The responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a clinical authority, offering specialized knowledge and guidance to nursing and junior medical staff within the unit.
  • Facilitating safe and timely discharge plans while identifying and addressing barriers to discharge efficiently.
  • Actively supporting the nursing team and embodying a positive role model by promoting best clinical and professional practices.
  • Exhibiting exceptional communication and leadership abilities, participating in recruitment, and conducting staff development evaluations.
  • Representing the nursing team at local and broader meetings.
  • Engaging in systematic performance monitoring and evaluating nursing practices.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Current NMC Registration
  • 1st Degree in nursing or a health-related field or currently pursuing
  • Relevant accredited post-registration qualification at level 3
