About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Geriatric Medicine and Stroke Services to join our team at NHS Scotland. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with complex needs, working closely with junior medical staff, and contributing to the development of our services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide input into the front door MoE frailty service, working with junior medical staff and the MoE nurse liaison service to identify, manage, and care for frail elderly patients.
  • Work with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate early, safe, and appropriate discharge, referring patients to community services, outpatient, and hospital-at-home settings as needed.
  • Provide input into the RIE acute MoE wards, diagnosing, investigating, and supervising specialized management for frail elderly patients under your care.
  • Contribute to the rehabilitation and complex discharge needs of patients stepped down from acute sites, working with the Midlothian MoE service.
  • Provide at least one in eight weekend scheduled MoE commitment to deliver acute assessment to the frail elderly in RIE AMU and cover for the MoE wards.
Requirements
  • Full GMC Registration and a license to practice.
  • Eligibility for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.
  • Higher specialist training leading to CCT or within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.
  • Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded.
