Job Title: Manufacturing Engineering Team Lead

Thales is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Team Lead to join our team in Belfast, UK. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the Mechanical Assembly function, ensuring the effective application of assembly techniques from concept through to contract close out.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of Industrial Process Engineers to prepare, commit, and hold the Assembly Planning Team to schedule and budget.
  • Conduct regular check-ins and reviews with your team to ensure development, training, and 1-2-1 interviews align with organizational objectives.
  • Manage employee relations issues, discipline, absence, overtime, and holidays for your team.
  • Empower and motivate staff through coaching and mentoring to create a participant environment promoting world-class performance levels.
  • Create, develop, and maintain effective methodologies for MAIT, utilizing CAD/CAM technologies and techniques to achieve best cost and quality with short lead times.
  • Approve design concepts and drawings for production, ensuring adherence to health and safety legislation.
  • Ensure the provision of accurate Production Bills of Material and formal reconciliations with lead times reflecting the sequence of manufacture on the organization's MRP system.
  • Manage and coordinate departmental resources and project activities to ensure contract EAC is achieved.
  • Provide shop support services to Operations to resolve assembly and cost-related issues for first article and serial production.
  • Ensure good communication exists between IPE, Design, Work and Material Planning, Supplier Management, Programme Management, Quality, and other engineering functions.
  • Provide input to the creation of Manufacturing Plans pre- and post-contract award, detailing facilities, plant equipment, process plans, training plans, tooling plans, and Make Vs Buy strategy for the product or programme.
  • Coordinate bid and estimating from Kick off through to CCR & gates to joint approval between Thales ICC & TASUK.
Requirements:
  • Education to degree level or equivalent in a relative engineering/manufacturing engineering discipline.
  • Typically, experience in a Senior Manufacturing Engineering role.
  • High-level knowledge of product life cycle phases, industrial engineering, costing and estimating development, NPI/APQP experience, mechanical assembly processes, and manufacturing work-package management.
  • Awareness of machine shop processes, financial awareness, and budgetary control.
  • Process control, design for manufacture and assembly, problem-solving, presentation skills, and Microsoft Office suite.
