We seek motivated and skilled engineers to join the existing Energy team, responsible for all facets of Electrical, Control, and Instrumentation (E,C & I) design and implementation.

The position involves designing electrical and control systems, primarily focusing on PLC-based control panels, along with cabling, Motor Control Centres (MCCs), Drives & Controls, Switchgear, and associated EC & I equipment, primarily within the thermal and hydro power generation sectors, although work in other areas may also be included.

The role necessitates the ability to conduct site surveys, develop electrical engineering solutions for cabling, design control panels, and prepare, review, and verify essential calculations and designs in collaboration with others while adhering to established procedures.

Travel will be a component of this role, with potential short-term assignments at customer sites to perform surveys and collaboratively design solutions with clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and guide the project team
Review and endorse designs created by the team
Ensure the team's adherence to established procedures, methods, and engineering design standards
Interpret and validate customer-supplied data, specifications, and drawings.
Lead/Produce system designs based on customer-provided information

Oversee the creation/modification of Design Packs, including system drawings, general arrangements, schematics, wiring diagrams, and site cable drawings.

Generate client design documentation and testing documentation
Produce all necessary documentation to support system production, such as Functional Design Specifications (FDS), test documentation, manuals, etc.
Conduct site surveys and assist in preparing Health and Safety documentation
Support site acceptance testing and commissioning
Aid in the preparation of tender documents and cost estimates.
Essential Qualifications:
Proficient in control systems within the energy sector (or a similar utility)
Experienced in field cabling systems (Power, Instrumentation, Control, and communications), including surveying and route identification, cable sizing calculations, and earthing/protection
Competent in control panel design incorporating PLC, I/O, communication cards, UPS systems, etc.
A minimum of a degree in a relevant field or HND with at least 5 years of post-graduate experience or 6 years post-HND experience in successful project implementation in the specified areas of expertise
Proficient in Microsoft Word, AutoCAD, and Excel.
A methodical approach to interpreting customer requirements and delivering project documentation
Understanding of the complete project lifecycle.
Desirable Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating some or all of the following:
  • Experience in at least one of the following:
Rockwell (Control Logix)
Siemens (PCS7, TIA Portal)
Schneider (M580, M340)
Experience in site installation and commissioning of control systems.
Familiarity with Motor Control Centres – specification, procurement, installation, etc.
Strong understanding of BS7671 IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
Awareness of DSEAR Regulations and hazardous area applications.
Knowledge of Functional Safety (IEC 61508/61511)
