Financial Accountant Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for providing management accounting, financial compliance, and financial control services to support our business operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Management Accounting:
    Prepare timely and accurate monthly management accounts for all groups within the UK, Luxembourg, and Ireland. Review all monthly entries and produce detailed transactional and summary reports to send to budget holders. Reconcile the balance sheet monthly.
  2. Business Services Costs Management:
    Manage specific Business Services functions, requiring a good understanding of all budgeted and actual expenditure to monitor variances. Hold monthly meetings with budget holders to review variances and identify any issues, ensuring corrective action is taken where necessary.
  3. Financial Accounting, Compliance, and Control:
    Account for fixed assets, including additions and depreciation, and budgeting. Review inter-office postings, prepare quarterly VAT returns, and provide cashflow reporting. Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts information and prepare analysis required for the annual audit.
  4. Planning and Budgeting:
    Support Business Services functions in the preparation of their annual plans and budgets, reviewing assumptions made, discussing with budget holders, and preparing summary analysis and commentary.
  5. Operational Support:
    Coordinate the provision of necessary information, analysis, explanation, and support to directors in managing their departments. Act as a main point of contact within Finance for specific Business Service functions.
Requirements:
  • Qualified in a recognized professional accounting qualification
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulae and working logic
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft office products
  • Knowledge of General Ledger and reporting systems
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, maintaining awareness of changes to UK GAAP and understanding the consequences of such changes
  • Strong written skills, with documents produced clearly presented
  • Excellent oral communication skills, with the ability to work with remote team members
  • Able to prioritize workload to meet daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines
