Geotechnical Engineer Job Description

Pertemps TM is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to play a crucial role in geotechnical projects, ensuring quality and efficiency in all aspects of site investigations and design.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Supervision: Design, supervise, and manage site investigations, including cost estimation and procurement of subcontractor services.
  • Geotechnical Design: Perform geotechnical design with a focus on slope stability, settlement, retaining structures, and reinforced earth. Oversee earthworks specification, design, and supervision.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare interpretative reports for geotechnical and related environmental projects.
  • Team Leadership: Provide line management and mentoring to junior technical staff.
  • Health and Safety: Prepare Health & Safety documentation and assist in the collation of project-related health and safety information.
  • Client Communication: Attend site meetings, liaise with clients, and act as a primary contact for project-related communications.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications: A degree in one of the Earth Sciences.
  • Experience: At least 4 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 2 years in both geo-environmental fieldwork and geotechnical design/assessment (covering slope stability, settlement, retaining structures, earthworks, and reinforced earth).
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal and team-working skills, and ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances and client requests.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in logging soil and rock according to current British Standards, and experience with software such as Holebase, CAD, QGIS, Slide, and Geo5.
  • Additional Requirements: First Aid, Asbestos Awareness, and CSCS qualifications are beneficial, and a full UK Driving License (Category B manual gears) is essential.
