Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity to become a part of the breast reconstruction team at Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Breast Reconstruction Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for leading, developing, and delivering exceptional, high-quality nursing services to patients undergoing breast surgery.

As a key worker for this patient group, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to provide evidence-based, personalized care tailored to individual needs.

We are open to considering candidates at Band 6 who are looking to progress to Band 7.

Key Responsibilities

The position entails offering specialized nursing practice, guidance, and support to patients undergoing reconstructive surgery for breast cancer and other non-oncological breast conditions. You will serve as a primary contact for these patients, their families, and caregivers, ensuring the delivery of personalized, holistic care. Your role will involve working closely with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to implement evidence-based practices, contributing to the development and execution of breast reconstruction nursing services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Job Duties

  • Utilize advanced nursing, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills to oversee and coordinate complex patient situations.
  • Facilitate a seamless care pathway for patients undergoing breast surgery within the plastic surgery team, both as inpatients and outpatients.
  • Ensure service provision through collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster collaborative working relationships, multidisciplinary teamwork, and effective communication among all MDT members and staff.
  • Exhibit leadership skills to promote the ongoing development of knowledge, skills, and competencies for breast reconstruction patients and the nursing teams supporting them.
  • Operate as an accountable, autonomous nurse, taking personal responsibility for your actions and decisions.
  • Maintain safe nursing practices, recognize your own limitations, and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Deliver safe, compassionate, and holistic nursing care, ensuring the dignity and privacy of patients are always upheld.
  • Act as an advocate for patients.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC registration
  • Nursing degree

Desirable

  • Master's qualification in a relevant field
  • Post-registration course in Burns/Plastics

Experience

  • Significant clinical experience in plastic surgery or oncology
