Position Overview:
As a Senior Speech and Language Therapist, you will deliver a highly specialized clinical service, collaborating closely with colleagues in speech and language therapy, caregivers, educational staff, and various health professionals. Your primary focus will be to address the communication, eating, and drinking needs of children with complex special needs and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert training and support to caregivers, fellow therapists, and other professionals in the specialized clinical domain.
- Actively participate as a member of the clinical team, ensuring a comprehensive Speech & Language Therapy service is delivered.
- Maintain professional standards and clinical guidelines, undertaking all clinical duties autonomously, including assessment and treatment of your own patient caseload.
- Establish and nurture key relationships with referral services to facilitate appropriate referrals and enhance understanding of the Speech & Language Therapist's role within the multi-disciplinary team.
- Support team operations, addressing queries, managing referrals, and contributing to team discussions.
- Engage in multi-professional team meetings, contributing actively and chairing discussions as necessary.
- Adapt to varying work patterns, managing your schedule and re-prioritizing tasks as needed.
- Supervise and mentor Speech & Language Therapists and students in the field.
- Adhere to the organization's complaints procedure, taking appropriate actions as required.
- Initiate and engage in change management processes, suggesting service developments aligned with national or local policies.
- Assist in the creation of care protocols and policies for specific clinical issues, such as dysarthria and dysphagia.
Professional Standards:
All staff are expected to comply with the Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust Staff Code of Conduct and demonstrate the Trust's Values and Behaviours. Senior Managers must also adhere to the NHS Code of Conduct for Managers, based on the Nolan principles of public accountability. Furthermore, all professionals are required to uphold the standards and/or Codes of Practice relevant to their profession, while also demonstrating the organization's Customer Care Standards.
Clinical Duties:
- Conduct specialized uni-professional and multi-professional assessments.
- Develop and implement tailored treatment plans for clients referred to the service.
- Participate in the Single Assessment Process when appropriate, performing comprehensive assessments and communicating relevant information across agencies.
- Ensure valid, informed consent is obtained for assessments and treatment interventions, following legal and professional guidelines.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of clinical guidelines specific to your area of expertise and apply them in practice.
- Utilize advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based measures to assess and reassess treatment programs.
- Following assessments, create individualized Speech & Language Therapy treatments and programs using a client-centered approach.
