Job Opportunity

We are seeking a talented and ambitious Junior Lawyer to join our team at Somerset Council. As a Junior Lawyer, you will play a key role in supporting our Commercial and Contracts, Planning, and Litigation teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support senior colleagues in providing legal advice to clients across the Council on matters related to procurement, contract terms, and governance.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and provide comprehensive legal advice for use by officers in Committees and other bodies.
  • Undertake a caseload of work in planning legal matters, including general legal advice, variations to planning agreements, and advice on planning enforcement.
  • Support and advise on planning appeals and conduct litigation cases in the county court, High Court, Magistrates' Court, and various tribunals.
Requirements
  • Qualified or nearly qualified as a Solicitor, Legal Executive, or Barrister.
  • Enthusiastic about working as part of a legal team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, especially Word, MS Teams, and Excel, and comfortable using a case management system.
