Position Overview:
The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring that the organization accurately receives payments for goods and services while meticulously recording these transactions. This position involves verifying and posting receipts, as well as resolving any discrepancies that may arise. The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the effectiveness of internal controls and ensuring compliance with current international financial reporting standards (IFRS) and relevant government regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage general accounting processes including cash management, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and expense reporting.
- Ensure proper segregation of duties and implement controls to safeguard the organization against impropriety.
- Oversee the monthly closing and financial reporting processes, including special quarterly, year-end, and tax requirements.
- Align all activities with IFRS requirements and perform reconciliations on all general ledger accounts.
- Prepare journal entries and participate in other month-end closing activities.
- Assist in conducting physical inventory counts and analyze the results.
- Review and execute account accruals as necessary.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.
- Maintain record retention for Finance, Human Resources, and other departments as required.
- Contribute to annual planning and monthly financial forecasting.
- Adhere to all reporting requirements set forth by the organization.
- Identify and implement process improvements within the department.
- Lead or participate in audits as assigned.
- Support quality requirements and initiatives as needed.
- Generate sales and gross margin reports, cost reports, and presentations.
- Provide trend analysis with insights and suggestions for improvement.
- Produce additional analyses as required to support business operations and initiatives.
- Comply with International Standardization Organization (ISO) standards and documentation requirements.
- Engage in ATS Business Model (ABM) and Kaizen events.
- Ensure all business activities are conducted with the highest ethical standards, in accordance with corporate and divisional procedures, and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting with up to three (3) years of equivalent accounting experience.
- Preferred two (2) years of experience in an IFRS environment.
- Strong mathematical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software/systems such as Xero, Sage, or similar, along with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with JDE and OneStream is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with business systems, both directly and indirectly.
- Must be proactive and capable of meeting deadlines for responsibilities.
