Job Summary:
NHS Lothian is seeking a Specialty Doctor to join our team in the department of Medicine of the Elderly, Western General Hospital Edinburgh. The successful candidate will work alongside an enthusiastic, supportive and motivated team of geriatricians and specialist nurses to develop and provide an innovative Perioperative care service for older adults in surgery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive geriatric assessment and realistic decision making within a well-established, evolving and dynamic multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Support a dedicated outpatient clinic providing proactive assessment of frailty ahead of surgery and discuss surgical interventions planned, applying realistic medicine principles within a dedicated MDT including surgeons, anaesthetists and geriatricians.
- Contribute to service planning, clinical governance and continued quality improvement.
- Participate in education and training, quality improvement and clinical research.
Requirements:
- Full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- At least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a less than full-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme or specialty registrar locum appointment for training (LAT).
- Equivalent training, experience or competencies, either in the UK or overseas.
