Woodland Consultancy Services is seeking a Junior Metallurgy and Fabrication Engineer to join our team. This role is part of our Graduate intake program, aimed at nurturing new talent in the engineering sector.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

A recent bachelor's degree in Welding or Materials Engineering is essential. A postgraduate qualification in Metallurgy is preferred. Familiarity with welding and the fabrication of metallic materials is advantageous.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have pursued their studies in Materials Engineering at reputable universities.

  • Previous experience in an engineering environment is beneficial, although comprehensive training will be provided.
  • Experience or further qualifications in Materials Engineering would be a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication abilities with colleagues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset.
  • A genuine interest in technical development and a commitment to pursuing recognized chartered engineering status.
  • Willingness to work in offshore environments when necessary.
  • A theoretical understanding of ferrous alloys and corrosion-resistant alloys (CRA).
  • Knowledge of chemical and mechanical properties and manufacturing processes related to alloys used in offshore applications.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Demonstrated commitment to project success.
  • In-depth understanding of metallurgical and mechanical properties of metallic materials.
  • Eagerness to learn fusion welding processes related to offshore structures.
  • Motivated to understand standard practices in metallic material processing for the offshore sector.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and make sound decisions.
  • Strong internal and external communication skills.
  • Solid theoretical background in ferrous alloys and CRA, including their properties and manufacturing processes relevant to offshore structures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role offers the chance to engage in diverse projects, including offshore wind farms and oil and gas infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the documentation related to the definition and production of components necessary for pipeline construction.
  • Supporting the procurement and commercial teams with technical analysis during project bidding phases.
  • Collaborating with the procurement department to establish vendor lists and evaluate bids.
  • Reviewing supplier documentation for compliance with specifications.
  • Issuing technical evaluations for supply of line pipes and fittings.
  • Assisting in the review of subcontractor documentation and inspection plans.
  • Coordinating with project engineers to identify specific project requirements.
  • Engaging with welding, NDT, and anticorrosion teams to ensure critical manufacturing requirements are met.
  • Conducting site inspections and surveys.
  • Reporting findings to the technical group leader.
  • Coordinating material failure analyses.
  • Maintaining relationships with line pipe manufacturers to stay informed on new technologies and materials.

GENERIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES:

  • Providing technical support to various projects regarding metallic materials.
  • Assisting the procurement department with technical specifications.
  • Liaising with fabrication yards for material procurement and troubleshooting.
  • Contributing to the development of material specifications and technical requisitions.
  • Participating in meetings with clients, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Willingness to travel if required.
