About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Environmental Sustainability Lead to join our team. Reporting directly to the Head of Sustainability, and supported by the Executive and Senior Management teams, you will:

  • Oversee the implementation of sustainability initiatives aligned with our Sustainability Policy, collaborating with colleagues to create procedural guidelines, action plans, and project delivery to meet sustainability objectives:

Achieve carbon neutrality in scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2030.

Move towards a zero waste operation by 2030.

Ensure procurement of deforestation-free commodities across all major supply chains.

Enhance UK biodiversity, managing at least 30% of owned land for biodiversity by 2030.

  • Develop and drive initiatives that promote environmental sustainability throughout the organization. This includes advancing carbon management, energy efficiency, waste management improvements, sustainable procurement practices, and identifying funding opportunities.
  • Provide expert technical support to integrate sustainability across all organizational activities, enhancing sustainability performance through stakeholder engagement and communication.
  • Deliver accurate sustainability data to support established targets and comply with external reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a comprehensive program to embed environmental sustainability within the organization, ensuring effective training and engagement on sustainability issues through various staff development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainability Steering Group and target leads to coordinate sustainability activities, producing presentations that highlight progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Work with sustainability target leads to establish structured approaches for achieving sustainability goals through collaborative Delivery Groups.
  • Partner with a Sustainability Officer to manage and implement initiatives focused on carbon management, energy efficiency, waste management, and sustainable procurement.
  • Identify and secure external funding to support sustainability targets, managing the sustainability budget effectively.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on sustainability, advising on best practices and supporting public affairs in developing policy positions.
  • Collaborate with the business reporting team to ensure accurate data collection for regulatory and organizational reporting on sustainability metrics.
