Position Overview

The successful candidate will join a dedicated team, working independently while receiving guidance from a senior clinician in a community environment, delivering exceptional clinical care.

The clinician should possess a minimum of one year of clinical experience and have completed a competency program.

Responsibilities include assessing, diagnosing, and creating tailored care plans for patients with diverse clinical requirements. The role also involves managing a personal caseload, which will encompass providing specialized care for individuals with diabetes and rheumatological conditions.

Administrative responsibilities may include managing inventory for a satellite clinic.

The post holder will be accountable for their clinical responsibilities, ensuring the application of evidence-based interventions and practices within the Podiatry services.

We are open to considering applications for a band 5 position and can offer a preceptorship program.

Key Responsibilities

The role entails the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of podiatric care for a variety of patients with differing clinical needs, including:

  • High and moderate risk diabetes
  • Chronic neuropathy
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Vascular diseases
  • Wound management and tissue viability
  • Neurological disorders
  • Nail surgery
  • Care provided across various primary and intermediate care settings

Job Responsibilities

1. Responsible for assessing new patients and developing individualized care packages, along with providing appropriate foot care education.

2. Utilize decision-making skills to determine when patients require intervention from other professionals or specialist departments, following established referral pathways.

3. Produce temporary orthoses/appliances and write prescriptions for manufactured insoles.

4. Participate in nail surgery procedures.

5. Conduct diabetic assessment review clinics, which include:

  • Diabetic foot assessments using appropriate equipment such as monofilaments, Doppler, ABPI's, and toe pressures.
  • Conducting risk assessments and categorizing patients into appropriate risk bands.
  • Referring patients to specialist services as necessary.

6. Actively engage in providing foot health education to patients, relatives, and caregivers, and participate in training for primary care and social services staff.

7. Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.

8. Maintain and secure stock inventory.

9. Adhere to departmental policies and guidelines while exercising discretion in clinical diagnosis and decision-making within professional boundaries.

10. Manage the discharge process for patients who no longer meet service access criteria.

11. Provide flexible coverage for other podiatrists during short notice or absence periods.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • At least 12 months of experience working within the NHS and completion or nearing completion of band 5 preceptorship.
  • Degree/Diploma in Podiatric Medicine.
  • Registered with the HCPC.
  • Local Analgesia Qualification.
  • Evidence of a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio.
