In collaboration with HS2, Laing O'Rourke is tasked with the comprehensive design, construction, and commissioning of the innovative HS2 Interchange Station. This groundbreaking station, located in the West Midlands, has achieved the prestigious BREEAM 'Outstanding' certification, marking a significant milestone in railway station sustainability.

Be a pivotal part of this esteemed project by leading the formulation and integration of our environmental and energy management systems into our operations while addressing client and stakeholder expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the organization in realizing our aspirations to redefine sustainability, aiding us in our objective to become a net-zero company that delivers nature-positive solutions with teams reflecting our diverse society.
  • Champion environmental initiatives that align with our sustainability framework, focusing on carbon reduction, waste minimization, and the preservation and enhancement of natural ecosystems.
  • Establish and nurture collaborative relationships with project delivery teams, clients, and stakeholders, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of client needs and delivering accordingly.
  • Lead with clarity; communicate objectives in a consistent manner that inspires and motivates; set and maintain high standards; provide clear outcomes and empower individuals to achieve them.
  • Implement the LOR Energy and Environmental Management System effectively.
  • Oversee environmental risks, deliverables, and requirements, engaging our design and delivery teams to identify risk mitigation strategies and continuously review control measures.
  • Design and conduct environmental training programs.
  • Manage extensive environmental data reporting requirements, establishing KPIs that drive continuous improvement and monitor project performance.
  • Investigate and report environmental incidents and non-conformances, collaborating with project leadership to integrate effective corrective actions.
  • Offer technical guidance to project design and delivery teams to identify and mitigate environmental risks, ensuring the adoption of best practices.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong personal drive and commitment, with effective goal-setting capabilities.
  • Positive attitude towards change, facilitating others in becoming adaptable and responsive.
  • Thorough understanding of environmental legislation and requirements, including ISO14001 and ISO50001 standards.
  • Organized and logical, with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to foster and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Experience in engaging with regulatory bodies and managing relationships to ensure timely approvals.

Qualifications

A degree in a relevant environmental or sustainability discipline is required.

A minimum of 5 years of pertinent experience is essential.

Full membership of IEMA or an equivalent professional body (such as IES, CIEEM, etc.) is preferred.
