Position Overview
We are seeking to appoint a Senior Consultant in Gastroenterology to enhance our dedicated team at Hywel Dda University Health Board.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive and dedicated professional, committed to delivering exceptional gastroenterology and endoscopic care while collaborating with a dynamic and innovative team.
The successful applicant should possess comprehensive knowledge in all facets of gastroenterology and participate in the general medicine on-call rota, which currently operates on a 1:10 basis.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed individual will:
- Deliver a thorough gastroenterology service
- Provide acute inpatient evaluations and treatments
- Conduct outpatient clinics and procedures in alignment with contractual obligations and the Health Board's strategic goals
- Contribute to the establishment and implementation of a sub-specialty service both within the hospital and the community

Hywel Dda University Health Board is responsible for planning and delivering NHS healthcare services across multiple counties. Our extensive workforce of 12,000 staff members provides a wide range of services, including primary, community, in-hospital, mental health, and learning disabilities care for approximately 384,000 individuals.

- Numerous general practices, dental practices, community pharmacies, and health centres
- Specialized mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications
Essential:
- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
- On Specialist Register with GMC or CCT due within 6 months of interview date
- MRCP
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
Desirable:
- Higher Degree (MD, PhD, or MSc) or equivalent
Clinical Experience
Essential:
- Broad experience in General Medicine and Gastroenterology
- Knowledge of UK hospital systems
- Competence in all forms of diagnostic gastrointestinal endoscopy
- Effective communication skills
Desirable:
- Experience within the NHS
- Research and training in sub-specialty services
Clinical Governance
Essential:
- Participation in clinical audit
- Understanding of Clinical Governance principles
Desirable:
- Knowledge of risk management
Research and Teaching
Essential:
- Experience in critical appraisal of evidence
- Evidence of teaching medical students and junior doctors
Desirable:
