Position Overview
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Band 5 Nuclear Pharmacy Specialist to become an integral part of our Radiopharmacy team. This role offers a unique opportunity to rotate through various sectors within the radiopharmacy, allowing the individual to acquire essential operational experience and develop a comprehensive skill set. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who is eager to enhance their aseptic techniques and organizational capabilities while gaining diverse experience in the field.
The Radiopharmacy operates under both MS and MIA(IMP) licenses, delivering extensive radiopharmaceutical services to both internal and external healthcare facilities. Key operational tasks include the manufacturing, dispensing, and quality assurance of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, alongside providing an In Vitro laboratory service.
Candidates should ideally possess registration as a Pharmacy Technician (GPhC) or hold a relevant degree in a scientific discipline. While prior experience in Radiopharmacy or aseptic environments is advantageous, we are open to considering applicants for a Band 4/5 developmental role who may not have previous experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a comprehensive clinical radiopharmacy service to the Trust and external clients.
- Engage in a variety of tasks related to the routine operations of the Radiopharmacy, including the preparation of radioactive medicinal products and conducting selected in vitro laboratory tests.
- Uphold an exceptionally high standard of accuracy and safety in all activities.

Operational Duties
- On a rotational basis, undertake the routine aseptic production of diagnostic and therapeutic radioactive medicinal products for clinical application, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Perform a variety of in vitro laboratory tests using unsealed radioactive sources, following established Standard Operating Procedures.
- Calculate and document results from tests into the Hospital Information System, with senior staff responsible for verifying results.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels of both stock and non-stock items in the Radiopharmacy, as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ensure the disposal of radioactive waste complies with Standard Operating Procedures.
- Act as a Radiopharmacy Operator in accordance with the Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- First degree or Foundation degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent education and training.
- Demonstrable experience at Band 4 or equivalent in a radiopharmacy or aseptic setting.
- Familiarity with aseptic manufacturing techniques for sterile medicinal products.
- Experience working in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice standards.
Desirable
- Postgraduate diploma in Radiopharmacy or equivalent expertise in the field.
- Registration with GPhC.
