ROLE OBJECTIVE:

  • Collaborate with all personnel to advocate for the Barnwood HSQE protocols and operational benchmarks, ensuring their effective integration across all locations, workshops, and administrative offices.
  • Provide specialized expertise to foster and enhance a proactive health and safety culture throughout Barnwood.
  • This position plays a crucial role in managing occupational hazards and health risks.
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with all relevant occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Assist in the planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation of the protective and preventive strategies that Barnwood is mandated or opts to implement, aiming to reduce operational losses, health issues, accidents, and injuries.
  • Encourage the digital transformation of Barnwood HSQE processes.
  • Enhance quality management on-site through the use of construction technology.
  • Promote Barnwood's HSQE standards in tender submissions and pre-qualification questionnaires.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage with employees to promote, mentor, and educate on Barnwood HSQE policies and practices, ensuring their adoption.
  • Maintain and refine safe operational protocols that recognize and address all pertinent hazards.
  • Develop practical and effective strategies, both preventive and corrective, to advocate for health and safety and secure working practices.
  • Advance Quality Management on-site by leveraging construction technology.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify that policies, procedures, and HSQE objectives are being effectively implemented.
  • Implement and provide training for teams on HSQE Software.
  • Formulate health and safety strategies and develop internal policies.
  • Complete risk assessments and execute risk mitigation measures.
  • Engage in self-development in accordance with Barnwood's performance management and continuous professional development framework.
  • Collaborate with managers and teams to resolve conflicts between production, site, and client considerations.
  • Assist in delivering in-house training for managers and employees regarding HSQE matters and risks.
  • Maintain records of inspections, findings, and generate reports that recommend improvements.
  • Participate in seminars by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and review professional publications.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies to ensure adherence to mandatory regulations.
  • Prepare reports, newsletters, and bulletins.
  • Conduct accident investigations on-site and produce subsequent reports and recommendations.
  • Ensure the safe installation of equipment.
  • Advise on various specialized areas, including fire safety, hazardous materials, noise control, machinery safeguarding, and occupational diseases.
  • Support the HSQE team in promoting and communicating Barnwood's HSQE standards in tenders and pre-qualification questionnaires.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • IOSH and NEBOSH certifications.
  • Prior experience in Health, Safety, and Environment at a Lead/Senior Advisor level.
  • Proven ability to implement short to medium-term improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, particularly in managing change.
  • Proactive mindset and approach.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload effectively.
  • Willingness to travel / Valid driving license.
  • Capability to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Strong reporting and writing skills.
  • Proficient in digital and IT software applications.
  • Effective influencing and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Experience in supporting line managers in fulfilling their health and safety responsibilities.

PREFERRED QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience in Construction and Shopfitting.
  • Willingness to travel.
