Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within Aldi's Health and Safety Division for the role of Safety and Compliance Advisor.

The ideal candidate will assist their Supervisor in executing Aldi's health and safety framework across various operational sites. Key responsibilities will encompass:

  • Delivering operational guidance and support on all aspects related to health & safety, fire safety, food safety, and regulatory compliance across the Regional Warehouse, Transport, Store Operations, Real Estate, and National Department functions.
  • Continuously enhancing Aldi's Health & Safety Management System; minimizing risks and adhering to legal requirements in a manner that is practical and aligned with business needs.

The successful applicant will promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organization and must be adept at presenting to groups, thus requiring excellent communication, meticulous attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.

Willingness to travel is essential, as this will be a frequent aspect of the role, involving visits to various business locations to fulfill responsibilities.

Your Responsibilities

  • Act as a qualified individual within their designated area concerning health & safety, fire safety, food safety, and compliance with trading regulations.
  • Coordinate the Company's response to any enforcement actions within the Regions.
  • Collaborate with Regional teams (Store Operations, Regional Warehouse, Transport, Real Estate, and National Departments) to ensure health & safety, fire safety, food safety, and compliance requirements are thoroughly addressed.
  • Support training and competency needs related to health & safety, fire safety, food safety, and compliance issues.
  • Facilitate the dissemination of pertinent health & safety, fire safety, food safety, and compliance information (from incidents, reports, and monitoring tools) across all levels of the organization.
  • Engage with third-party service providers delivering health & safety, fire safety, food safety, and compliance services in their Region, including the Primary Authority.
  • Communicate with contractors regarding health, safety, and fire risks as necessary.
  • Evaluate the implementation of a robust health & safety, fire safety, food safety, and compliance performance monitoring system within their area and report on outcomes.
  • Conduct Store Risk Assessments, Workplace Transport Risk Assessments, and Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Perform audits and inspections at agreed intervals across various stores and operational centers.
  • Investigate significant work-related incidents (reportable incidents) and provide guidance on necessary injury/harm prevention initiatives.
  • Advise teams on the investigation of non-reportable incidents to ensure that underlying causes are identified and addressed appropriately.
  • Respond to inquiries from third parties and local authorities regarding regulatory challenges.
  • All candidates must possess a full driving license and have access to a vehicle to carry out field-based tasks.

Candidate Profile

  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • A valid driving license is required due to travel obligations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of national legislation and relevant industry standards.
  • Significant and recent experience in health and safety.
  • Understanding the importance of confidentiality, integrity, and honesty.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Highly organized and capable of working independently.
  • Strong stakeholder and project management skills.
  • Adaptable to the demands of a dynamic business environment.
  • Strategic thinker with a solution-oriented approach.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Office 365, particularly Excel.

Desirable Qualifications

  • IOSH Membership.
  • CIEH Membership.
  • Fire safety qualification.
  • Lead auditor qualification.
  • Experience in multi-site food retail operations.
  • Logistics experience.
  • Experience conducting Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Food safety management system experience.
  • Relevant enforcement experience.
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field, or currently pursuing this qualification.
