As a pivotal member of the team reporting to the Assistant Director - Land, Development and Regeneration, the Director of Legal Affairs will be instrumental in achieving Homes England's strategic goals by overseeing a team dedicated to managing commercial agreements. You will join a supportive and approachable group committed to delivering exceptional legal guidance to Homes England.

  • Overseeing a dedicated team of legal professionals focused on drafting contracts and providing counsel on commercial, procurement, and intellectual property law matters;
  • Providing expert advice on regulatory, commercial, and public law issues to facilitate informed decision-making and execution across various business sectors, including organizational transformation and digital initiatives;
  • Managing a substantial caseload, including complex cases, with efficiency and professionalism.

This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to a rapidly expanding national organization with a significant social mission. Collaborating with key stakeholders and a professional legal team, you will ensure the effective and consistent resolution of commercial legal challenges.

In addition to possessing extensive legal expertise in commercial agreements, you will demonstrate high energy levels, motivation, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced and evolving landscape. You will be inquisitive, adaptable, and comfortable navigating ambiguity, equipped with strong analytical and intellectual capabilities.

Although the primary focus will be on commercial agreements, familiarity with public procurement law and other regulatory frameworks in the public sector is advantageous.

Successfully fulfilling a mission as ambitious as ours requires resilience and the ability to engage with senior stakeholders effectively. Your discussions will be informed by a solid understanding of the commercial and operational implications of our legal work. You will enjoy fostering an innovative, enjoyable, and engaging work environment while demonstrating strong negotiation and persuasion skills.

As a seasoned legal expert, you will appreciate the importance of teamwork and collaboration, showcasing your ability to lead and work alongside colleagues in an inclusive manner.

Candidate Profile

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Qualified solicitor with a current practicing certificate and significant post-qualification experience in commercial law, including commercial agreements, intellectual property rights, and IR35 regulations. Experience in public procurement law is a plus.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with strong negotiation abilities; capable of articulating complex legal matters to Directors, committees, and other stakeholders.
