As a pivotal member of the academic team, you will oversee a group of tutors, collaborating closely with the Head of English to ensure that all educational programs are executed to the highest standards, adhere to the established curriculum, and utilize approved assessment methods. Your leadership will be essential in fostering optimal outcomes for students and enhancing their overall educational experience. You will also assist in the design and management of a specified collection of modules within your subject area.
RESPONSIBILITIES Lead a team of Tutors to ensure exceptional student outcomes and experiences in Academic English Skills and related modules. Recruit qualified academic staff as needed, following organizational policies and procedures. Provide constructive feedback on team performance regularly. Actively participate in the Centre Management Team, addressing challenges with a solution-oriented mindset and driving improvement initiatives. Engage in personal development activities as agreed with your line manager. Seek feedback from colleagues to enhance your performance and grow as an academic leader. Maintain professionalism at all times, demonstrating resilience in high-pressure situations. Build and nurture effective working relationships with colleagues within the Centre and the broader network. Manage your time and workload independently and efficiently. Assist the Head of English in planning and overseeing the design and delivery of all courses in your subject area. Collaborate with central teams to implement teaching and assessment strategies, managing relevant technical platforms. Support the Head of English in resource allocation for teaching, ensuring adherence to scheduling guidelines and budgetary constraints. Contribute to the creation of course documentation, including outlines, handbooks, and teaching materials. Coordinate the design and execution of fair and secure assessment activities aligned with the centre's assessment strategy. Teach up to 20 hours as agreed with the Head of Centre and/or Head of English. Work with the Student Experience Team to ensure lesson coverage during Tutor absences. Oversee the recording and reporting of teaching and assessment activities, ensuring timely and accurate data submission. Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Head of Centre or Head of English. Ensure all courses in your subject area comply with quality frameworks, policies, and procedures. Assist in monitoring the implementation of actions from the Centre Action Plan relevant to your subject area. Liaise with External Examiners, providing necessary information as required. Collaborate with the Head of English to analyze and respond to External Examiner feedback. Support high-quality teaching and learning, monitoring and observing practices to foster continuous improvement. Ensure high levels of automatic progression for students across all modules. Analyze data and feedback to monitor progress towards targets, working with the Head of Progression and Support to implement necessary actions. Contribute to the Annual Monitoring Report, Centre Action Plan, and other evaluative documents for submission. Engage in governance and quality enhancement activities within the Centre. Develop and maintain relationships with key academic contacts to facilitate the best transition for students. QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelor's degree and a DELTA (or equivalent) / Master's or higher degree in a relevant discipline. Training in leadership and management. Experience in a leadership role within a teaching and learning environment. Proven track record of leading a team to achieve high student performance and outcomes. Experience teaching international students in UK higher or further education. Experience in planning and managing complex educational courses. A history of driving change and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Experience in teaching within your subject area. Experience in collaborative work within the education sector.
