Job Summary

OBM People is seeking a highly skilled HSSEQ Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing technical advice and support to personnel at all levels on HSSEQ matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Advice and Support: Provide expert guidance on HSSEQ matters to operations managers and staff, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, HSE guidance, and approved codes of practice.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Regularly monitor compliance with the client's Integrated Management System (AIMS) across all areas of responsibility.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain strong working relationships with client representatives of supported business units.
  • Communication: Ensure that HSSEQ statistics and updates are regularly and effectively communicated to the workforce.
  • Theme and Campaign Support: Support the delivery of HSSEQ Themes and Campaigns across supported business units.
  • Site Visits: Undertake regular site visits to engage with personnel on HSSEQ matters, provide briefings, carry out inspections, and safety monitoring.
  • Incident Investigations: Oversee incident investigations and manage the process from start to finish, ensuring the completion of investigations to a high standard in a timely manner.
  • Tender Support: Where necessary, support the commercial tendering process for Teesworks through the compilation of high-quality HSSEQ submissions within specified deadlines.
  • System Improvement: Support the continuous improvement of the client's HSSEQ Integrated Management System through the sharing of industry best practice.
  • Audit and Verification: Undertake and monitor site verification audits in Teesworks, ensuring that all actions are closed out within specified deadlines.
  • Risk Assessment: Work with operational managers to ensure that all new and existing HSSEQ challenges are assessed, and the development of practicable solutions are implemented to effectively mitigate risk.
  • Emergency Response: Support the planning and organization of emergency response drills and exercises where required.
  • Industry Interface: Interface with appropriate industry bodies and enforcement authorities regarding operational HSSEQ requirements.
  • Excellence Promotion: Promote HSSEQ Excellence through the attendance at client monthly/quarterly performance reviews and events where required.
  • Customer Engagement: Continually deliver excellent service delivery and customer engagement to promote the client as the partner of choice.
  • Inductions: Undertake HSSEQ Inductions for new personnel where required.
  • Stop the Job Policy: Fully endorse the client's 'Stop the Job' policy and commitment to proactive intervention where an unsafe act or condition is observed.
Minimum Qualifications and Competencies
  • Health and Safety Qualification: Formally recognized Health and Safety Qualification, i.e., NEBOSH certificate or equivalent.
  • Membership: Membership of IOSH or working towards.
  • Train the Trainer Certificate: Train the Trainer certificate or equivalent.
  • UK Driving Licence: UK Driving Licence.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build effective working relationships both with clients and with colleagues across all levels of the business.
  • Proven Track Record: Proven track record in a safety-related discipline, with a fair and consistent approach.
  • Communication and Presentation Skills: Excellent communicator with strong inter-personal and presentation skills.
  • Influence and Change Management: Ability to influence, drive change, and innovate.
  • HSSEQ Knowledge: Conversant with HSSEQ legislation, audit, incident management, risk management, training, and behavioural-based approaches.
  • ISO Knowledge: Good knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001.
  • Accident and Incident Investigation: Experienced in accident/incident investigation.
  • Computer Literacy: Computer literate with well-developed IT skills across the Microsoft suite and a practical understanding of data entry and reporting applications.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills: Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Productivity and Deadline Management: Ability to produce work to a high standard within set deadlines and under pressure.
