We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented team player to embark on a career in publishing within our innovative and award-winning publicity team, during a period of exciting expansion for the organization. You will be an integral part of a collaborative and supportive team, reporting directly to the Publicity Director. As a Public Relations Assistant, your role will be vital in providing administrative support to ensure the efficient operation of daily activities. Your responsibilities will include creating internal and external communication documents, scheduling meetings, and coordinating with media representatives and colleagues across the organization. This position demands strong organizational skills, efficiency, excellent time management, and confident communication abilities. You will also assist with campaigns and events, with opportunities to plan and execute your own initiatives.

No prior experience in a publishing house is necessary to capture our interest We are looking for a proactive individual with initiative and a passion for literature who will excel in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide administrative assistance to the Publicity Director and the Children's Publicity Team, including scheduling, processing invoices, taking meeting minutes, and arranging travel Support publicity campaigns as needed, including coordinating author travel, managing budgets, organizing mailings, accompanying authors to events and interviews, and planning events Take ownership of select publicity campaigns to enhance your skill set and knowledge of campaign management, contributing to the broader department Manage departmental processes, including awards management, festivals and conferences, creating internal communication documents, handling departmental invoices, book ordering, and more Serve as the publicity contact for the public and media, ensuring all communications with external stakeholders are efficient, friendly, and timely Act as the primary point of contact for internal colleagues within the publicity team

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Exceptional organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively Strong attention to detail Genuine interest in various media forms, including print, broadcast, and online, as well as social media and emerging media trends Excellent verbal and written communication skills for copy editing, press release writing, and keeping stakeholders informed Strong relationship-building skills to establish and maintain connections with internal and external stakeholders Passion for reading to stay informed about Bloomsbury's publications and market trends

Additional Information

This is a full-time permanent position.

Salary: £27,000

The role follows a hybrid working pattern of 2 days in the office and 3 days working from home (or fully office-based if preferred).

As an Assistant role, this position is eligible for Bloomsbury's Rental Deposit Loan Scheme, offering an interest-free rental deposit to support candidates in securing housing. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and is repayable over 2 years.
