This newly established position is designed to enhance the overall efficiency of the financial systems and the operational internal control framework within a thriving organization.
Your primary responsibilities will include implementing and assessing the effectiveness of controls, advising the organization on rectifying control deficiencies, and overseeing the defense mechanisms to mitigate risk exposure.
This role presents an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of an internal control function, assist in risk assessments, formulate mitigation strategies, and provide guidance on remediation plans.
As a qualified Accountant, you will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on essential financial and operational systems, playing a pivotal role within the Finance and Controls team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the advancement of the controls roadmap and implement additional requirements stemming from the regulatory landscape.
- Ideally, candidates will have an Audit/Practice background, though significant experience in financial systems controls from commercial settings will also be considered.
- Possess strong interpersonal and presentation skills, enabling effective communication with management, auditors, and non-accounting stakeholders.
- While experience in IT audits is not mandatory, it would be advantageous.
- Demonstrate experience in evaluating financial controls through audit engagements or relevant industry roles.
- Exhibit a desire to assess, challenge, and optimize financial systems to drive meaningful change.
- Conduct reviews and oversight of financial and operational controls, coordinating testing, root cause analysis, control design, and evaluating key metrics to assess the effectiveness of established internal controls.
- Collaborate closely with the financial reporting team to foster continuous improvement and establish a robust controls culture.
- Understand the implications of operational/system changes on procedures and core systems, assessing the accounting and control ramifications of proposed system modifications.
- Engage in scoping activities to identify key risk areas for audit.
- Design tailored procedures and execute audit projects efficiently where appropriate.
- Communicate audit findings and recommendations to leadership team members.
- Perform controls testing and substantive audit work to a standard that can be relied upon by external auditors for statutory financial audits.
- Understand the interaction and impact of subsidiary systems on accounting systems to ensure system integrity.
- Act as a key point of contact for External Auditors regarding process and financial system overviews, ensuring any audit implications are identified, evaluated, and agreed upon.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in internal financial systems controls.
- Assist in implementing the strategy for internal control.
- Work with process owners to prepare and update process documentation, ensuring that key financial reporting controls across the organization are identified and documented.
- Establish improvements in financial controls design and provide training to embed enhanced processes and controls.
- Maintain and monitor the Financial Controls Framework and ensure adherence to policies.
- Contribute to the vision for the future development of the financial control environment alongside increasing automation.
- Participate in ad hoc projects aimed at enhancing accounting and reporting processes that support organizational growth.
- Coordinate with internal and external audit teams to align on audit plans and discuss any new expectations or changes in approach, advocating on behalf of the organization when necessary.
