The Role

At Hiscox, we are celebrated for our proficiency in underwriting Professional Indemnity, Cyber, Property, and Casualty lines. As part of our strategic growth initiative, we aim to strengthen our foothold in the mid-market sector, mirroring our success in underwriting intricate policies that our competitors often shy away from.

In this crucial position, the Mid-Market Underwriter will play a key role in propelling Hiscox UK's profitable expansion. You will be responsible for underwriting substantial, complex cases, generating significant Gross Written Premium (GWP), while maintaining the high standards of risk management that define Hiscox.

Key Responsibilities:

Effectively securing new and existing high-value risks, delivering superior underwriting for complex exposures within familiar risk categories. Focusing on high-value policies in the mid-market sector, aiming to maximize GWP from significant risks across the UK. Leading by example, influencing fellow underwriters, and making a broader impact within your area of expertise at a national level.

What You'll Be Doing:

Contributing significantly to growth through strategic underwriting in the mid-market sector. Acting as a brand ambassador, recognized for your underwriting expertise in Hiscox's established risk categories. Leading underwriting and sales visits to key clients and prospects. Possessing in-depth knowledge of your area of specialization, including awareness of sector trends and competitive dynamics. Sharing expertise through coaching and training, enhancing our mid-market capabilities. Building and nurturing strategic broker relationships, ensuring a strong market presence in the mid-market sector. Influencing underwriting and pricing strategies, aligning with Hiscox's growth objectives.

Our Must-Haves:

A comprehensive understanding of UK retail business and the ability to underwrite larger, more complex risks. Extensive expertise in your specialized field. Strong knowledge of the insurance market, industry dynamics, competitors, brokers, and factors influencing market conditions. Ideally ACII qualified or exempt through relevant experience as defined by the FCA. Exceptional relationship management and sales capabilities. Ability to lead by example in all professional endeavors. Conducting underwriting and sales visits to larger clients and prospects. Mentoring and coaching less experienced underwriters in underwriting and sales techniques.
