Job Duties

1. Utilize play as a vital tool for communication, therapy, and engagement throughout the care planning and implementation process. Collaborate with play specialists, educational staff, and schools to create suitable play and educational programs tailored to each child's needs.

2. Address the health promotion needs of each child and family, ensuring timely provision of relevant information and support during the child's hospital stay.

3. Ensure the administration, documentation, and storage of medications comply with the Pediatric Unit and Hospital Drug Policies.

4. Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct consistently.

5. Follow local child protection protocols diligently.

6. Actively engage in the Clinical Governance Agenda to integrate quality into service delivery, including: i. Clinical effectiveness and audits ii. Risk Management iii. Continuous professional development iv. Research and Development v. User involvement and collaborative working

7. Report all incidents and accidents using the appropriate documentation.

8. Ensure effective discharge planning begins upon admission to facilitate optimal discharge timing for the child.

9. Comply with all Trust infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental, and food hygiene. Complete annual training and updates in infection control.

10. Prepare for and execute the protective interventions for which you are responsible, ensuring alignment with evidence-based practices while maintaining safety for patients, staff, and other users.

Managerial Responsibilities

1. Prioritize tasks to ensure the safety of children and families under your care.

2. Take responsibility for the efficient use of resources to benefit the patients in your care.

3. Assist in managing and controlling inventory and supplies on the ward.

4. Ensure regular maintenance and cleaning of equipment, report faults, and remove defective equipment from use.

5. Occasionally manage shifts, considering the planned care program, necessary adjustments during the shift, and the impact of care on the child and family. All care must align with medical staff prescriptions and the multidisciplinary team's directives.

6. Ensure timely and accurate entry of patient information into the hospital's Patient Information System (PIMs) and Extramed systems, including updates on discharge dates, consultant transfers, and other relevant changes as they occur, in line with the Trust's data quality standards.
