The Lead Midwife for Multiple Pregnancies is responsible for orchestrating comprehensive care and support for women and their families experiencing multiple pregnancies within the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This role encompasses the management of the multiple pregnancy care pathway, ensuring adherence to national guidelines and standards.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Provide equitable and evidence-based services, demonstrating specialized knowledge in the management of twins, triplets, and higher-order multiples.
- Exhibit proficiency in all facets of care for women during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal phases.
- Lead the development of services in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team dedicated to multiple births, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
- Engage with various healthcare professionals, including those in neonatal care, mental health, and social services, to deliver holistic support.
Clinical Duties
The Lead Midwife will:
- Utilize advanced midwifery skills to ensure safe and compassionate care delivery.
- Provide evidence-based care during all stages of pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, including effective transitions to infant care services.
- Maintain expert knowledge of multiple pregnancy management and facilitate referrals to relevant support services.
- Monitor the health and wellbeing of both mothers and infants throughout the pregnancy journey.
- Conduct midwife-led clinics and offer various modes of communication for clinical consultations.
- Deliver tailored educational sessions for parents regarding their care expectations.
- Assess the mental health of parents and provide appropriate referrals as necessary.

Operational Management
The role requires the ability to:

The Lead Midwife will:
