Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our dedicated team.

As a key member of our multidisciplinary unit, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive mental health care to children and adolescents within our community.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a diverse range of child and adolescent mental health conditions.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the wider healthcare team.
  • Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
  • Participate actively in clinical audit and research initiatives to enhance service quality and contribute to advancements in child and adolescent mental health care.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, effectively engaging with patients, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Full GMC registration and eligibility to practice in the UK.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-MBBS experience, including at least 2 years specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry.
  • Proven expertise in managing complex mental health disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, emotional trauma, and emerging personality disorders in children and adolescents.
  • Experience with the Mental Health Act (MHA), including assessments under Section 136.
  • Strong clinical governance skills, including knowledge of incident investigation and complaint handling procedures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • MRC Psych (or equivalent).
  • Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act.
  • Tier 4 experience in child and adolescent psychiatry.
  • Active participation in clinical audit and research projects.
