The Role: Bioinformatics Software Developer - Customer Analysis Workflows

We are seeking a talented and driven Bioinformatics Software Developer to join our Customer Analysis Workflows team. This role focuses on developing and maintaining bioinformatic analyses that cater to diverse user needs, ranging from researchers to clinicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of novel bioinformatic workflows tailored to specific experiment scenarios and scientific inquiries.
  • Collaborate closely with internal R&D teams to identify and integrate analysis pipelines that address customer requirements.
  • Adapt existing bioinformatic tools for long-read nanopore sequencing data, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy.
  • Contribute to the identification of new tool development opportunities and work alongside Algorithm Research colleagues to explore innovative solutions.
  • Champion best practices for ONT's open-source analysis software, promoting code quality and maintainability.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in long-read data analysis and user requirements through engagement with customer-facing teams.

What We're Looking For:

We seek a candidate with a strong foundation in bioinformatics and software development. The ideal individual will possess:

  • A Master's degree (or equivalent experience) with a significant emphasis on programming in a high-level language.
  • Experience in software development within Debian-based Linux environments.
  • Expertise in bioinformatic workflows, including knowledge of workflow management software (such as Nextflow) and practical experience handling sequencing data using common tools (e.g., samtools, bcftools).
  • Familiarity with long-read sequencing technologies and principles.
  • Proficient Python programming skills encompassing development, testing, and packaging.
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment practices, coupled with a willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving requirements.
