About the Role

iO Associates is seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Developer to join our team in the UK/EU region. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality Java-based solutions to our clients in the National Security and Defence sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Maintain Java Applications: Design, develop, and maintain complex Java applications, ensuring they meet the required standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with platform teams, development teams, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and deployment of Java applications.
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve Issues: Identify and resolve complex technical issues, using relevant log messages and system logging to diagnose problems.
  • Manage System Resources: Work with platform teams to manage Docker/Kubernetes system resources and networking to determine and resolve bottlenecks or networking issues.
  • Generate and Manage System Certificates: Generate and manage system SSL certificates, ensuring they are up-to-date and secure.
  • Monitor and Maintain Operational Systems: Monitor and perform daily checks of operational systems, ensuring they are running smoothly and efficiently.
Requirements
  • Java Development Experience: Proven experience in Java development, with a strong understanding of Java Spring Boot micro-service development.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to reason about problems, test hypotheses, and make appropriate risk decisions.
  • Knowledge of Java Testing Frameworks: Familiarity with Java JUnit testing frameworks and experience in writing and updating Java end-to-end and performance tests.
  • Understanding of XML/XSD: Strong understanding of XML/XSD and experience in working with event-driven integration with MQ messaging (RabbitMQ or similar AMQP solution).
  • Linux Administration: Experience in Linux command line administration and shell scripting.
  • Relational Database Management: Understanding of relational database management and experience in managing PostgreSQL database credentials and password rotations.
Desirable Skills
  • Docker and Kubernetes Experience: Experience in working with Docker Swarm/Kubernetes and knowledge of common elements such as Containers, Pods, Services, Routes, Deployments, etc.
  • Terraform and Ansible Experience: Ability to understand and update Terraform deployments and manage and update Ansible playbooks to keep the infrastructure patched and updated.
  • Atlassian Tools and CI/CD Systems: Familiarity with Atlassian tools and CI/CD systems.
