About the Role

Suffolk Primary Care is seeking a skilled Dispensing Professional to join our team at Debenham Group Practice. As a key member of our dispensing team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and accurate preparation of medications for our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medications in accordance with legal requirements and patient confidentiality
  • Assist the Dispensary Manager in maintaining effective financial and legal control of the dispensary
  • Contribute to the preparation of all aspects of dispensing, including stock control, ordering, and re-stocking
  • Issue stock items and prepared prescriptions
  • Process and dispense repeat prescription requests
  • Collect private charges for private medications, vaccines, and other medications
  • Issue and dispense dosset boxes
  • Sort, stamp, and endorse prescriptions for timely reimbursement
  • Remove items from collection drawers and audit on clinical system
  • Check stock against invoices for accurate delivery and claim for missing/damaged items
  • Operate efficient stock control to ensure continuity of supply and minimize wastage
  • Ensure drugs are received and stored in accordance with manufacturers' instructions and MHRA recalls
  • Maintain refrigerated items at appropriate temperature and record temperature control
  • Clean work surfaces and shelving regularly and ensure dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order
  • Date check as per SOP
  • Maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions
  • Accept orders for repeats and deal with queries from patients and support staff
  • Deal with Ask My GP queries and action appropriately
  • Ensure audits are completed timely and DSQS patient reviews are performed
  • Handle and safely destroy patient returned medicines
  • Stock shelves, refrigerators, and other storage areas using rotation method
  • Remove out-of-date stock from shelves, refrigerators, and other storage areas
  • Action tasks, notifications, and emails
  • Use computer to maintain accurate and up-to-date records and issue prescriptions
  • Liaise with GPs or in-patient records if concerned about medication requests
  • Deal with queries from patients regarding prescriptions
  • Handle controlled drugs and maintain accurate register for legal and stock control purposes
  • Assist in stock checks where required
  • Provide cover for members of the team during absence
  • Perform safe disposal of pharmaceutical waste ensuring compliance
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings
  • Act upon new information relating to stock or procedures
  • Keep professionally up-to-date with current dispensing practices
  • Work with Dispensary Manager and other team members to comply with Standard Operating Procedures
