Job Description

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant - Personal Care Support

Location: Formby (L37)

Salary: £12.90-13.50 per hour

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one support for a child with specific needs, ensuring their well-being and active participation in all aspects of school life.
  • Assist with personal care tasks, including toileting, dressing, and hygiene, while maintaining the child's dignity and comfort.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to deliver tailored support that meets the child's individual learning and developmental needs.
  • Implement specific strategies and interventions to help the child engage with learning and social activities.
  • Monitor the child's progress and provide feedback to relevant staff and parents/carers.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive environment where the child feels valued, confident, and supported.
  • Assist with general classroom duties and contribute to the smooth running of daily activities.
Essential Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children with SEN, including providing personal care support.
  • A caring and patient approach, with a strong commitment to supporting children's well-being and development.
  • Understanding of safeguarding practices and how to maintain a child's dignity and respect while providing personal care.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals.
  • A proactive attitude, with the flexibility to adapt to the child's evolving needs.
Desirable:
  • Relevant qualifications in supporting teaching and learning or health and social care.
  • Experience in working with children who have physical disabilities or complex medical needs.
  • Training in areas such as Manual Handling or First Aid.

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to supporting children with special educational needs and have experience working in a similar role. They will be able to work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to deliver tailored support that meets the child's individual learning and developmental needs.
