Job Title: Principal Systems Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Engineer to join our team at Spinwell. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the development of architecture models, managing requirements gathering and analysis, and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the engineering life-cycle, with the ability to mentor others in all aspects of the life-cycle.
  • Manage the requirements gathering and analysis process across multiple projects, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and informed.
  • Lead the development of architecture models across multiple projects, using commercially available MBSE software such as Enterprise Architect and DOORS.
  • Possess one or more areas of expertise within the defence or commercial engineering sectors, with the ability to support the Head of Systems Engineering in defining internal engineering processes.
  • Facilitate large workshops with SMEs to develop and refine artifacts, including requirements and architecture models.
  • Perform product owner role on projects, presenting work to customer and internal stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support up to 10 senior and junior systems engineers across multiple projects, proactively managing self-development to meet progression aims.
  • Provide direct line management to senior and junior engineers, ensuring that all team members are aligned and informed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field (desirable).
  • 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a strong background in ISO/IEC 15288 compliant Systems Engineering methodologies.
  • Chartered with a relevant engineering institute, with in-depth knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering, Requirements Engineering, and support to Safety and Product Security Engineering activities.
  • Experience providing Systems Engineering leadership within a major programme across multi-discipline teams, with experience in building effective and collaborative customer relationships.
  • Experience in applying Scrum methodologies to engineering delivery, with experience of systems engineering toolsets including IBM DOORS and Sparx Enterprise Architect.
  • Excellent time management, organisation, and prioritisation capabilities.
