About the Role

As a One to One Peer Support Volunteer with Light, you will play a vital role in providing dedicated and tailored support to families in need. This role requires a high level of empathy and understanding, as you will be working closely with individuals to address their unique challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Support and Guidance: Offer one-to-one support to parents or expectant mothers, providing a listening ear and guidance on how to navigate their situation.
  • Assess and Feedback: Regularly assess the family's situation and provide feedback to the Volunteer Coordinators on any concerns or issues that arise.
  • Promote Mental Health and Wellbeing: Promote the mental health and wellbeing of the individuals you support, providing them with information on relevant services and resources.
  • Attend Training and Development: Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge, ensuring you are equipped to provide the best possible support.
  • Confidentiality and Boundaries: Understand and maintain confidentiality, as well as respect the boundaries of the individuals you support.
  • Safeguarding and Lone-Working: Understand and follow Light's safeguarding and lone-working policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and well-being of all parties involved.
Requirements and Qualities
  • Excellent Listening Skills: Possess good listening skills and empathy, enabling you to build strong relationships with the individuals you support.
  • Caring and Positive Attitude: Demonstrate a caring and positive attitude, with a genuine desire to help and support others.
  • Interest in Women's Mental Health: Have an interest in women's mental health around childbirth, and be willing to learn and develop your knowledge in this area.
  • Non-Judgmental and Equal Opportunities: Possess a non-judgmental attitude, with an awareness of equal opportunities and the ability to work in accordance with equal opportunities principles.
  • Confidentiality and Boundaries: Understand and maintain confidentiality, as well as respect the boundaries of the individuals you support.
