Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Safety Manager to join our team at Morson Talent. As an Electrical Safety Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of electrical systems and installations within our organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and recommend sufficient Authorised Persons to provide necessary cover for all systems and installations.
  • Investigate electrical dangerous occurrences and review Project Electrical Safety Operating Procedures as required.
  • Define the extent of systems and installations for each Authorised Person and maintain a register of all Authorised Persons.
  • Ensure candidates for appointment as Authorised Persons meet qualification requirements and can demonstrate adequate knowledge of each system, installation, and type of equipment.
  • Induct AP's into their duties and ensure 100% coverage across the business area of responsibility.
  • Report to contract senior management any deficiency in the number of suitably trained and experienced Authorised Persons.
  • Review each Authorised Person's operational experience at intervals of not more than three years and recommend refresher training as necessary.
  • Initiate and coordinate investigations of reported injuries and dangerous occurrences involving electrical systems and installations.
  • Agree any interpretation of Project electrical safety operating procedures and report same to the Designated Individual.
  • Ensure any amendments to Project electrical safety operating procedures are brought formally to the attention of, and are understood by all appropriate personnel.
  • Notify management of any known defect reports or operational restrictions affecting the safety of operational procedures.
  • Ensure a system is in place to circulate relevant information on operating restrictions and dangerous occurrences to all Authorised Persons.
  • Agree in writing with the Designated Individual any local deviation from Project Electrical Safety Operating Procedures.
  • Audit/ review all Authorised Persons at random intervals, including a meeting with the Authorised Person and a brief review of the systems and installations to which their appointment refers.
  • Liaise with colleagues to ensure good electrical practice and consistent application of Project Electrical Safety Operating Procedures.
  • Undertake comprehensive audits of safe systems of work and safety procedures required by the Company Low Voltage Operating Procedures.
Requirements:
  • SC or DV cleared, or willing and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role.
  • Electrical Engineer with practical and relevant technical engineering experience of the types of system and equipment relative to their appointment.
  • Previously completed an approved Authorised Person initial training course and operated as an appointed Authorised Person for a minimum of five years.
  • Satisfactorily completed an approved Authorising Engineer training course in the last five years.
  • Familiar with different types of equipment, installation, and system in use within the area for which appointment relates to.
  • Electrical knowledge and experience of the systems and installations in use in the area for which they will become responsible.
  • Ability to demonstrate competency and suitability for the role by demonstrating a good understanding of the management tasks involved and knowledge of the 'Electrical safety guidance for low voltage systems.'
  • Completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship or electrical engineering training and/or an industry-recognised electrical qualification.
  • Proof of skills.
  • Previous experience in the development, implementation, monitoring, administering, and auditing of electrical safe systems of work.
  • Ideal experience of undertaking an Authorising Engineer role previously.
  • Ideal be or be working towards a Chartered or Incorporated Engineering Registration.
  • Comprehensive understanding of HSAWA, EAWR, CDM, risk assessments, safety systems, safety cases, and SSoW.
  • 18th Edition IET Electrical Regulations.
  • SMSTS (or equivalent CDM course).
