About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Operative to join our team at Network Rail. As an Operative, you will play a critical role in maintaining the daily upkeep of the rail network, ensuring the safe and smooth operation of trains for passengers and freight users.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work outdoors in a small team, supporting essential maintenance tasks to keep the railway running safely and efficiently.
  • Transport equipment and materials across challenging terrain, often in demanding manual work conditions.
  • Be safety-focused, respectful of rules, and a team player, working closely with colleagues to deliver safe and efficient work delivery.
  • Provide lookout duties to ensure the safety of the team and the public.
  • Support the team in maintaining equipment and ensuring the van and equipment are ready for every shift.
Requirements
  • Teamworking: Ability to work closely with the team to deliver safe and efficient work delivery.
  • Communication: Good communication skills to work safely and effectively.
  • Proactive planning: Be punctual, have the van and equipment ready, and anticipate the needs of the team.
  • Working under pressure: Remain calm under pressure, working outdoors in all conditions, and with trains passing close by.
  • Following rules and instructions: Understand and respect the rules, but also feel confident to challenge if you see a situation is unsafe.
  • Willingness to learn: Consistently develop your skills and competencies relevant to your discipline, keeping up to date with new standards, procedures, and instructions.
