Job Overview

Legal & General Retail's Data Operations team is seeking three experienced professionals to fill the role of Lead Data Engineer. This position is part of the company's expansion into a new area, focusing on the retirements side of the Retail division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and implement data solutions using modern ETL techniques and tools, ensuring they are fit for purpose and GDPR compliant.
  • Drive projects forward, serving as a mentor and coach to junior members of the team, and ensuring all developments follow agreed standards and release management processes.
  • Evaluate and refine team standards in an environment of continuous change, facilitating team sessions to improve and keep them current and compliant.
  • Identify and resolve issues and risks with created solutions, providing support to colleagues as needed.
  • Contribute to team and project planning activities, working within an agile delivery framework as part of a Scrum team.
  • Facilitate refinement of tasks in the Product Backlog, guiding and supporting the team in breaking down deliveries into technical data engineering components.
  • Liaise with end customers, Architect, and Product Owner to translate business goals into compliant specifications.
  • Participate in high-level epic refinement sessions, ensuring that goals are understood and achievable by the engineering team.
  • Provide mentorship and support to junior and mid-level data engineers, acting as a role model to colleagues across the Data Ops function.

Requirements

  • Relevant professional qualifications in Data Engineering or related specialism.
  • Industry-recognised badges/certificates on tools such as Snowflake, Azure Synapse/Data Factory, DBT Cloud, and Azure DevOps.
  • Industry-recognised badges/certificates on methodologies such as Scrum/Kanban, DevOps/DataOps, and Dimensional Data Modelling (Kimball).
