Position Overview

We are seeking an Advanced Speech and Language Therapist, Band 7, to join our dedicated team.

Work Schedule

Part-time: 15 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of speech, language, and communication as part of the CAMHS ASD evaluation process.

2. Prepare detailed reports following assessments and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) as necessary.

3. Collaborate in the preparation of final reports for the assessment clinic.

4. Manage a specialized caseload while providing guidance to less experienced colleagues.

5. Take on responsibilities for developing and executing specific objectives or projects related to your area of expertise, reporting back to the team.

6. Establish and maintain effective communication with parents, caregivers, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive client management, including participation in case conferences.

7. Communicate complex and sensitive information to clients and their families, utilizing both verbal and non-verbal methods to overcome barriers to understanding.

8. Supervise assistants and volunteers in both individual and group therapy sessions, adhering to departmental policies.

9. Demonstrate progress towards clear therapeutic goals appropriate to the clinical environment, utilizing established outcome measures.

10. Collect and analyze statistical data, participating in audits and outcome assessments to enhance the quality of care.

11. Propose and develop procedures, policies, and standards for service delivery within your specialty, advising management on necessary resources.

12. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient records and reports, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.

13. Record client interactions electronically within 24 hours.

14. Adhere to best practice standards in Speech and Language Therapy as per national and professional guidelines.

15. Engage in continuous professional development as mandated by relevant professional bodies, including participation in personal development programs, peer reviews, and clinical supervision.

16. Ensure that your practice is safe and compliant with professional standards.

17. Stay updated on advancements in your specialty to enhance your role and promote autonomous practice.

18. Provide opportunities for prospective Speech and Language Therapy students and other professionals to observe clinical practice, contributing to their supervision and training.

19. Organize and deliver specialized training sessions for Speech and Language Therapists, students, and other professionals, as well as for parents and caregivers.

20. Identify training needs within the team related to your area of expertise.

21. Participate in service meetings and multidisciplinary discussions, potentially representing the team leader when required.

22. Exercise care in the use of equipment and resources, highlighting the need for additional supplies as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent qualification.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • Membership in the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Desirable

  • Training in ADOS.
  • Training in ADI-R.

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at a postgraduate level.
