About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Anatomical Pathology Technician to join our Mortuary team at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our mortuary services, providing exceptional care to our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Lead Anatomical Pathology Technician in the training and development of morticians, ensuring adherence to departmental standards and policies.
  • Ensure the mortuary operates to the highest standards of service and quality, in accordance with the Head of Service and Head BMS for Cellular Pathology.
  • Perform day-to-day duties, including receiving, identifying, and storing bodies in secure and safe conditions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the safe keeping of clothing, property, and valuables of the deceased.
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain a clean and organized mortuary environment, adhering to statutory requirements and standard operational procedures.
Requirements
  • Hold a degree or diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Have a basic understanding of health and safety in the mortuary, as well as an awareness of different religious beliefs surrounding death.
  • Be able to exercise autonomy and judgment within limited parameters, with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Have good computer literacy and experience working with bereaved relatives.
