Job Summary:

Academics Ltd is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team at a specialist school for students with Autism and associated learning and behavioural needs. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with complex neuropsychological needs and challenging behaviors.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide individualized support to students with Autism and associated needs, utilizing effective communication techniques and strategies.
  2. Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of therapists, including SALTs, Occupational therapists, psychologists, and counsellors, to provide comprehensive support to students.
  3. Implement and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, utilizing sensory rooms, soft play, and therapy rooms as designated areas for specialist support.
  4. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of students' needs, working closely with teachers and other support staff to ensure seamless support.
  5. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in supporting students with Autism and associated needs.
  6. Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior support plans (BSPs) in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  7. Assist in maintaining accurate records and reports, ensuring timely and effective communication with parents and caregivers.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience working with students with Autism and associated needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, and TEACCH communication methods, with a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
