Job Role Purpose

As a key member of the Sweet Projects team, the Design Manager will provide a high-quality design management service, supporting the Senior Design Manager and/or Project Director. During the project execution phase, the Design Manager will be directed on a day-to-day basis by the Project Design Leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the design delivery process, developing a design compliant with contract requirements and ensuring design risk and opportunities are managed.
  • Accountable for leading and managing design teams and associated stakeholders to assure the successful, safe, and efficient delivery of projects, while minimising potential risks to the business.
  • Oversee and contribute to the management and mentoring of design team members, collaborating with various stakeholders to drive excellence in design management and encourage consistently high-quality standards throughout the project life cycle.
  • Manage design programme and commercial awareness through compliance with client requirements while maintaining cost effectiveness for all project stakeholders.
  • Promote engineering efficiencies, strategic initiatives, and previous lessons learnt.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Support the Project Leadership on a day-to-day basis by leading and managing the design team, overseeing the design process from concept to handover, ensuring compliance with client requirements, and advising on adherence to deliverables, timelines, budget, and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain cross-discipline collaboration with all designing and project stakeholders, respecting contract obligations, design details and reviews, design quality reviews and acceptance, monitoring design production progress against deliverables, programme support and validation of design elements, procurement and package definition support, construction support against design intent, cost support, health, safety, and environment, and general design management administration.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Essential qualifications include a relevant industry qualification (RIBA, ICE, CIOB, EC) and a valid CSCS Card.
  • Desirable qualifications include a degree qualification and Chartered status.
  • Proven experience leading and managing multi-disciplinary design teams and a full understanding of the design process from inception to handover.
  • Detailed experience of construction coordinating and leading site staff and contractors.
  • Extensive knowledge of current Building Regulations and planning processes.
  • Aware of design principles and methodologies of building construction.
