Project Management Officer for Naval Services

The Ministry of Defence – Royal Navy is seeking a dedicated and proactive individual to join our team in a pivotal role within the Navy Command Headquarters. This position plays a crucial part in supporting the operational capabilities of the Naval Service, ensuring that our submarine fleet remains effective and ready for deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Gathering and analyzing programme performance metrics from diverse data sources to evaluate cost, schedule, milestone achievements, and other key performance indicators.
- Presenting performance data and insights to senior leadership, conducting root cause analyses, and recommending corrective actions for any identified performance issues.
- Assisting programme leadership in managing cost, schedule, and quality through relevant data and metrics, while also addressing emergent project challenges and mitigating risks.
- Processing and reviewing cost and schedule information for projects, including contingency assessments.
- Collaborating with the Programme Controls Lead to develop and implement specific strategies and communication across the Directorate.
- Supporting scheduling activities, including the creation of schedules, milestone maps, and critical path networks, while facilitating planning workshops.
- Engaging in Risk & Issues Management by developing and reviewing risks and issues, and conducting regular updates on the data held.
- Ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for all programme and project reporting requirements, including the preparation of materials for governance boards.
- Providing situational awareness to the Programme/Project Manager regarding current performance and potential future issues that may hinder project delivery.
- Strong understanding of Project Controls processes, including reporting, cost management, scheduling, and risk management.
- Experience with Project Controls tools such as Sharepoint, PowerBI, and Risk Hive.
- Ability to interpret and analyze various data sources and present findings to senior stakeholders with actionable recommendations.
- Proven problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis to effectively resolve programme issues.
- Experience in Project Controls within large, complex programmes.
- Background in coaching others in project controls methodologies.
- Relevant qualifications such as APM-Q or PRINCE2.
