About the Role

HFG is seeking a skilled Development Underwriter to join their growing team at a leading Lloyd's MGA. The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding the company's presence in the West Midlands area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development: Operate collaboratively with key brokers in the region to increase the flow of new business activity.
  • Underwriting: Review and underwrite new business quotations across all products within the company's underwriting appetite, including any queries within the SLAs of the business.
  • Broker Relationships: Undertake broker visits and underwriting surgeries at broker offices to increase brand awareness and establish contacts.
  • Escalation Point: Be an escalation point for key brokers.
  • Collaboration: Liaise and establish good working relations with the technical underwriting team and key stakeholders.
  • Communication: Regular communication with business development managers and regional directors to develop and maintain broker relationships and strategic planning.
  • Referral Point: Act as a referral point for underwriters within the wider team.
  • Teamwork: Work closely and effectively with the underwriting team to ensure that all work is completed within SLAs and maintain broker relationships by offering a high level of customer service.
  • Compliance: Operate in accordance with the underwriting license provided, utilize the underwriting guide, and collaborate with senior colleagues.
  • Initiative: Take initiative, within the context of the role, to improve work processes and promote overall corporate goals.
  • Work Environment: Home-based with occasional visits to the London office when necessary.
