Detailed Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing mortuary services to the Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group. This will include preparing the deceased for family viewing purposes, handling challenging and emotional situations with bereaved families, and maintaining a professional manner at all times.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work in a mortuary environment, providing support to the mortuary team.
  • Prepare the deceased for family viewing purposes, adhering to strict protocols and procedures.
  • Handle challenging and emotional situations with bereaved families, providing empathy and support.
  • Maintain a professional manner at all times, adhering to the highest standards of conduct.
  • Develop knowledge of the importance and relevance of mortuary services, including data protection and patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in out-of-hours rota, as required.
Essential Criteria
  • Good general education and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual.
  • Ability to use initiative and concentration for long periods at technically demanding procedures.
  • Emotionally robust, sufficient to deal with daily exposure to unpleasant odours, bodily fluids, and emotionally challenging situations.
  • Professional manner and demeanour.
  • Honest and trustworthy.
  • Able to speak English as necessary to undertake the role.
Desirable Criteria
  • Liaising with Medical Examiners team.
  • Liaising with bereavement team.
  • Proficient use of EPR.
  • First aid.
  • APT qualification.
  • ECDL or similar computer skills.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to lift loads.
  • Willing to participate in out-of-hours rota.
  • Able to wear personnel protective equipment when required.
  • Experience of running a mortuary department.
Knowledge
  • Ability to develop knowledge of the importance and relevance of mortuary services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of data protection and patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of the Human Tissue Act.
