Role Overview

The Senior Fire Safety Consultant will be responsible for conducting primarily type 1 assessments within medium-sized educational institutions, with potential expansion into type 1 and type 3 assessments in residential properties in the future.

Essential Skills and Experience

To thrive in this position, candidates must possess a comprehensive understanding of current fire safety regulations, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, alongside technical standards and contemporary fire safety challenges.

  • Conduct fire risk evaluations in accordance with existing fire safety legislation and offer precise guidance and support to clients.
  • Ensure compliance of buildings with the latest fire-related building codes and technical standards.
  • Adopt a practical and systematic approach to problem-solving, adhering to budget constraints and tight deadlines.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills regarding fire safety legislation and requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate reports detailing findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure assessments are completed efficiently and accurately.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Manage schedules effectively to arrange appointments and assessments.
  • Be prepared to travel across the UK for assessments and training.
  • Engage in regular communication with the client’s team to coordinate inspection schedules and remedial actions.
  • Provide internal advice to a team of surveyors and architects regarding building safety.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum Level 4 qualification in fire risk management, or a Level 5 qualification in fire risk assessment or fire engineering.
  • Completion of an approved fire risk assessment course.
  • Registration on the national register of Fire Risk Assessors, via IFE, FRACS, or IFSM (minimum registration on Tier 3 of the IFSM register is required).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience conducting fire risk assessments across various premises.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent organizational and calendar management skills.
  • A valid driving license.
Compensation and Benefits
