The role involves providing dedicated support to adults with learning disabilities and epilepsy, ensuring their unique health requirements are addressed while facilitating access to specialized healthcare services when necessary. The successful candidate will hold professional and managerial accountability for the ongoing enhancement of the Epilepsy Nurse Service within the community healthcare framework.
Key Responsibilities
The Specialist Nurse will collaborate across various environments, engaging with service users, caregivers, general practitioners, consultant psychiatrists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Responsibilities include:
- Delivering high-quality clinical care and educational support to individuals with learning disabilities and epilepsy, along with their families and caregivers.
- Providing training and guidance on health improvement, health promotion, and effective epilepsy management.
- Conducting thorough assessments and interventions tailored to the specific needs of individuals.
- Maintaining comprehensive records utilizing appropriate electronic systems.
- Participating actively in personal and team development initiatives.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
- Registered Nurse qualification in Learning Disabilities.
- A diploma or higher qualification in epilepsy care.
- Mentorship training or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of three years of post-registration nursing experience.
Desirable Attributes
Preferred candidates will have:
- Experience as an independent non-medical prescriber or a willingness to pursue this qualification.
- Achieved 'expert nurse' status within the Learning Disability Epilepsy Nurse Specialist Framework.
