A rare and unique chance to join a small, well-respected, not-for-profit ecological organization in a dynamic landscape. We encourage ecologists with diverse skills and experience to explore the possibilities of working with us at INCA Ltd.
Our organization, created from industry to ensure the Tees Valley and North Yorkshire landscapes remain biodiverse and economically active, has worked in the estuary for over 30 years. We are now seeking ambitious, skilled, and experienced ecologists to discuss joining our team, which is part-funded through membership by industry, regulators, and local environmental organizations.
We are looking for individuals with excellent communication skills, who can cultivate relationships and work in a flexible, hybrid environment. Ideally, you will have experience leading ecological projects, completing Habitat Regulations Assessments, UK Habitats classifications for Biodiversity Net Gain, and dealing with designated sites legislation.
INCA Ltd has responsibility for ensuring good ecological outcomes within a complex of SPA bird designations, SSSI saltmarsh and dune communities, and habitats ranging from ancient woodland to intertidal mudflats and species-rich meadows. You will work alongside experienced and specialized ecologists in a charismatic and dynamic landscape.
We offer highly competitive salaries (£30 – 55K, depending on the role and experience), a pension scheme, private healthcare, professional memberships, and generous holidays (up to 30+ days annually + bank holidays).
Responsibilities
As an ecologist at INCA Ltd, you will be responsible for:
- Determining and developing user requirements for systems in production, to ensure maximum usability
- Leading ecological projects through planning, completing Habitat Regulations Assessments, and UK Habitats classifications for Biodiversity Net Gain
- Dealing with designated sites legislation and ensuring good ecological outcomes
- Cultivating relationships with industry, regulators, and local environmental organizations
Qualifications
We are looking for individuals with:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject
- At least six years' experience as a professional ecological consultant
- Good ecological field skills covering a range of protected species and habitats
- A sound understanding of the legislative and planning policy framework as it relates to ecology and nature conservation
- The ability to write concise, high-quality, technical reports in line with CIEEM guidelines
- Experience in Habitats Regulations Assessment and Biodiversity Net Gain
- Experience of writing fee proposals, project management, and client liaison
- Good commercial awareness and excellent teamwork and communication skills
Desirable Qualifications
We also welcome applicants with:
- A Master's degree in a relevant subject
- Associate membership of CIEEM (or higher) and a willingness to work towards Full membership
- Good working knowledge of QGIS
- BSBI FISC (Level 3 or above)
- Natural England protected species licences
